At a time when saber-rattling and threats of nuclear annihilation have put the DPRK on all our radar screens, it’s worthwhile reflecting that the threat of confrontation is never far from the minds of the citizens of South Korea. The following notice was displayed in my hotel room in 2008, at a time of no particular escalation, and while visits to the DMZ continued apace:
